1 - Add Text to an animated .gif

You have an animated .gif and you want to add text to it.

Follow these steps to create the new image with Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop

Open your animation in Animation Shop

    Select all frames

    Click on

  • Edit
  • Select All

  • Export your frames to paint shop pro.[This step is done so you can update the frames to the animation after apply some different text filters and effects]

    Click on

  • File
  • Export Frames
  • To Paint Shop Pro

  • You should now have a 2 layer image in PSP named Frame 1 and Frame 2

Click on the text tool to add your text

    Use the settings below

Position the text where you want it on the layer.

Before deselecting the text, save it to an alpha channel.

  • Click Selections
  • Save to Alpha Channel
  • Click OK
  • Click OK again

  • Switch to layer 1 (Frame One).

  • Click Layers
  • Layer 1

  • Now add the alpha channel you saved earlier.

  • Click Selections
  • Load From Alpha Channel
  • Pick Selection #1

  • Using the Flood Fill Tool - give the alpha channel some color

Sometimes it is necessary to zoom in on the picture so you can get the crosshairs of the flood fill tool inside the selection outline of the alpha channel text.

You should now have the text on both Frames.

Close the image, PSP will ask if you want to update the frames in Animation Shop. Click Yes

    View your animation.

  • Click View
  • Animation

  • If you like the way it looks close the view screen and click file save as - Give it a name and presto - you are done.

If you dont like it - close the view screen and click Edit undo. Then try it again.

You should have an animation with text flickering slightly like so:

By adding your text in PSP rather than just animation shop you can add all sorts of effects.

I played with some glow filters (Inspired by your name) and came up with this

Play around a little and see what you can come up with...
